Thread Cutting Screws
Thread cutting screws are generally for applications where disruptive internal stresses are undesirable or where excessive driving torque would be encountered with thread forming screws. The point of the screw has been formed with a cut of varying types for specific applications.

Type 1 Thread Cutting Screws for Metal

Hardened steel Type 1 Thread Cutting Screws are made for use in harder metals such as steel, alloy steel and cast iron. They utilize a standard machine screw thread. They can be used on metals of any thickness and can be used repeatedly as needed. Extremely strong, these screws can often be employed in much smaller sizes than machine screws. Commonly available in heat treated, hardened steel though alternative materials such as brass, stainless steel and aluminum are possible via special order.

Type 23 Thread Cutting Screws for Castings

These thread cutting screws are for use in softer metal die castings such as aluminum, and zinc. The thread cutting slot is wider and off-center to allow more clearance for chips and a better cutting angle. They utilize a standard machine screw thread. Commonly available in heat treated hardened steel though alternative materials such as stainless steel, monel, brass and aluminum are available by special order.

Type 25 Thread Cutting Screws for Plastics

Type 25 thread cutting screws have a wide cutting slot similar to the Type 23. Combined with wider spaced threads, this screw is ideal for plastic as it reduces the driving torque required, permits chips to fall free more easily and greatly reduces the stress on the material it is penetrating. Its qualities also reduce fracturing in more brittle plastics. Commonly available in heat treated hardened steel though alternative materials such as stainless steel, brass and aluminum are available by special order.

Type F Thread Cutting Screws

Type F thread cutting screws have four cutting notches and are used to make fastenings to castings, forgings, heavy sheet metal, structural steel, plywood and even plastics. They provide a tight vibrationless fit with a high resistance to torque shear and tension.
