Locking Nuts
Any nut can be manufactured with a locking feature. The most common locking nuts include Keps nuts, Nylon Insert Lock nuts and All Metal locknuts.

Keps Nuts

Keps nuts, also known as star nuts, have a washer integrated on one side which provides locking tension when tightened. Washers can be internal or external tooth lockwashers, split lockwashers or a variety of specially shaped washers, as needed. The most common version of a keps nut is the external tooth lockwasher.

Metal Locking Nuts

All Metal locknuts rely on an internal "pinch" or "crimp" in their threading to provide a locking mechanism. All metal locking features are most commonly seen in flanged nuts.

Nylon Insert Locknuts

Nylon insert locknuts are produced by a number of manufacturers and there can be small variations in height and color of the insert depending on the manufacturer.
