Screw Machine Products

Screw Machine Products are products that have been formed by a turning process from bar stock. Different machines are used based on a number of criteria including: the complexity of the finished item; the volume of products being produced; and the precision required. Parts are fabricated using Brown & Sharpe and multiple spindle Davenport automatic screw machines for many of our spacer and standoff products. Hydromat Rotary Transfer CNC machines are employed for large items with a greatly reduced cycle time. We also have available EDM, Swiss Screw and Rotary Transfer capability. Apex can perform a substantial amount of custom and/or precision manufactured products for our customers.

Ball Studs and Receptacles

Ball Studs and Ball Stud Receptacles provide a simple solution for assemblies that must be detached often. Most often used in panel fastenings, ball studs and receptacles permit a sturdy connection point which can nevertheless be overcome without the need for fastening tools.

A Ball Studs height is determined by the panel thickness the ball stud penetrates when it engages the clip. When reviewing the ball stud pages, either male or female, determine the panel thickness range by first measuring the offsetting panel thickness the ball stud passes through then go to the chart and look for "panel range" to determine the correct ball stud for your application. If you'd like some assistance please call us and a sales associate will be happy to discuss your application.

Captive Fasteners®

Captive Fasteners® provide permanent attachement points in a wide variety of applications. Captive Fasteners® are available in three basic groups: Self-Clinching Fasteners, used with ductile materials; Broaching Fasteners, used with non-ductile materials; and Weld Nuts for sheet metal. Self-clinching and broaching captive fasteners install into a round hole punched or driled into the seatng material while weld nuts are attached to the surface of steel or stainless steel sheet metal. In all cases, the attachment is permanent eliminating the possibility of loose hardware. Captive Fasteners® are available in a variety of fastener forms from nuts to studs to pins and standoffs. They are normally formed from steel, stainless steel and aluminum.

Captive Panel Retainers

The Captive Panel Retainer is used as the female adapter that accepts the Captive Panel Screws and aids in the attaching of panels or boards in a semi-rigid manner. The Captive Panel Retainer is rigid in nature and typically when installed it is not easly removed.

Captive Panel Screw

Captive Panel Screws are used to attach panels or boards in a semi-rigid manner. Captive panel screws permit the surface to which it is attached to be removed for repair or inspection of the underlying equipment. Captive panel screws are commonly available as one piece assemblies that enable quick spring-loaded release and retention with a variety of mounting options and drive methods. Some captive panel screws are available as multi-part assemblies in conjunction with captive panel retainers, which are the female adapter that accepts the captive panel screw.

Connector Hardware

Connector Hardware are electronic hardware used to provide anchor points using Jack Screws. Jack screws, a form of male-female standoff, when assembled with hex nuts and lockwashers, provide a secure point into which additional hardware can be threaded.

Handles

Handles, used in furniture, panels and other applications, are screw machine products most often manufactured out of round aluminum, steel and stainless steel material. Handles are available in all sizes, with male or female threads, to meet your specifications.

Precision Shoulder Screws

Precision Shoulder Screws, also known as shoulder bolts, are fasteners with an unthreaded cylindrical section, or shoulder, between threads and screwhead. The shoulder is larger in diameter than the threaded section and provides an axis around which close-fitting moving parts operate. Precision shoulder screws are available with an undercut shoulder where the diameter of the shoulder can be as small as the minor diameter of the threads. Precision shoulder screws are identified by the diameter and the length of the shoulder. Precision shoulder screws can be produced with a slotted or hex socket head. Precision shoulder screws differ from standard shoulder screws in that they have very tight dimensional tolerances. Precision shoulder screws are typically available in stainless steel but can also be made from alloy steel and brass. We carry both metric and inch standard sizes.

Spacers and Standoffs

Spacers and Standoffs are two common types of positioning electronic hardware. They provide sturdy support, alignment and spacing to a variety of applications such as circuit board assemblies, panels and doors. Spacers and Standoffs are available in a variety of shapes, sizes and materials to meet the particular needs of your application. Round, hex, square, swage, female threads, male threads and even knurling for insert-like properties are all available. Non-magnetic and electrically neutral materials also help facilitate sensitive assembly requirements.
