Screws

Apex Fasteners carries screws for any application. We provide screws in a range of sizes, threads, drive types and special features. Specific details for each screw category can help you identify the perfect solution for your fastener needs.

Construction Fasteners

Generally classified as those fasteners used to secure building materials.

Drive Screws

Designated Type U screws, drive screws are characterized by their multiple start threads of large helix angle with a pilot point. They are intended for making permanent fastenings in metals and plastics. They are forced under pressure into the material to which they are fastening. ASME B18.6.4

Machine Screws

Machine screws, also known as machine bolts. Include a wide variety of head styles and drive styles, including self-sealing and wall plate screws, as well as stove bolts. These types of screws are not as large as the average screw, ranging in sizes up to 3/4" (19.05 mm) but can be larger. Variations between machine screws mainly exist in overall size, shape of the head, slot type, length, material, and characteristics of the thread.

Miniature Screws

APEX provides small diameter fasteners to a variety of industries including OEM electronics, computer technologies, aerospace, telecommunications, medical equipment optical devices and others. Miniature Screws can be produced in diameters from 0.0118" to 0.0551". Head styles offered for miniature screws are fillister, pan, binding, & 100 degree flat head. They are universally offered with a slotted drive. Refer to ASME B18-11-1961 (R 2000)

Panel Screws

Panel screws are typically utilized in combination with a panel screw receptacle. The receptacle allows the panel screw to remain attached to the panel even when the panel is removed. When the panel is replaced in position, the panel screw can then be tightened down through the receptacle into the mounting surface. Panel screws are characterized by an unthreaded portion of their shaft set between the head of the screw and the smaller threaded portion at the opposite tip. Panel screw heads can be similar to machine screw heads, socket products or even knurled thumb screws. Panel screw tips can be flat or with a guiding conical or dog point. Several standardized types of panel screws have been developed to ease identification. Panel screw are meant to be easily tightened and loosened for quick access.

Sems Screws

SEMS screws provide design and manufacturing efficiencies by combining multiple parts, captive washer and screw, into one versatile fastener. The style of lockwasher or combination of assembled parts can provide bottom line savings for production. One part to inventory, track and assemble. In addition, to the more standard series shown below, specials with cables, or even electrical assemblies can be fashioned.

Sheet Metal Screws

Sheet metal screws, also commonly known as tapping screws, are used to join thin gage sheet metal. Generally harder than machine screws, sheet metal screws require a preformed hole to be effectively employed. The most common sheet metal screws are a Type A with coarse spaced threads and a sharp gimlet point, mostly seen used in stainlesss steel screws; the Type AB which has more narrow thread spacing and a gimlet point; and the Type B which has a blunt point and threads spaced like an AB. ASME B18.6.4

Tamper Resistant Screws

Security fasteners provide another level of security by their unique drive designs to prevent removal with ordinary screw drivers and commonplace tools. APEX Fasteners supplies a wide selection of security fastener head-styles, drives and matching tools for their installation and removal. Screws are available in sheet metal and machine threads.

Tapping Screws

Tapping screws are identified by letter or number combination to define a thread form and point design or by a licensed product name which was developed for a specific application. All tapping screws have either machine screw threads or spaced threads. Generally tapping screws can be grouped into these categories: Thread Forming, Thread Cutting, & Self Drilling, please see below for links to further information.

Thread Cutting Screws

Thread cutting screws are generally for applications where disruptive internal stresses are undesirable or where excessive driving torque would be encountered with thread forming screws. The point of the screw has been formed with a cut of varying types for specific applications.

Thumb Screws and Thumb Nuts

APEX Fasteners provides all types of precision made machined thumb screws; washer face thumb screws, plain thumb screws, push-types and more. Available in many materials, the right thumb screw for the job offers ease of assembly and access without tools.
